It’s spring in Vermont! The snow is melting, the birds are chirping, and the flowers are starting to poke out of the ground. These are unprecedented times we are living in indeed, but like all things there will be an end.
Although our office has been closed to the public, Grant, Susan and myself have been busy getting ready for projects which will commence after all of this craziness has moved on.
We have placed nursery orders, ordered landscaping supplies, and have been working on scheduling out of routine maintenance for the houses and condos that we manage. Due to the governor’s orders, we cannot get out and start any clean-ups or projects yet, but we are taking advantage of this time for planning and scheduling purposes. We suggest you do the same and use the down time that many of you have now to think about what your needs are at your property. We are available to give quotes/advice on any ideas you may have and get you early on the schedule so once we are given the go ahead by the state, we can hit the ground running!

Vermont Governor Phil Scott issued a Stay Home order in response to the Covid-19 crisis. Though we expected this measure to come forth, it’s still a sobering reality to deal with. Fortunately, our business will not have to shut down entirely. As part of the Executive Oder (you can find it on governor.vermont.gov is you want some light reading), the Governor issued an Addendum which listed businesses that are exempt and to what degree. Mad River Property Management falls under the following:
m. other building and property services for the safety, sanitation and operations of residences or other businesses;
So, here’s what that means for us and for you. Grant, Susan and myself will continue to operate the business for the time being. Susan is primarily working remotely, and Grant and I will handle all of the onsite homeowner services. We will still be monitoring the property and common areas routinely, and will be available for any property issues that arise. We will refrain from entering your unit while the Covid-19 restrictions are in place unless there’s an emergency or special request. If we do, we will wear gloves at all times.
We will be laying off our current winter staff (Drew, Jake, Josh, Ollie, Kelly) until further notice. Hopefully, this will only be a few weeks and then they’ll be able to get back to work. In the meantime, they will file for unemployment benefits. It’s a difficult decision to make, as our staff are like family to us, but they know the seriousness of the current restrictions and are understanding. We will not bring on any of our seasonal staff until this all blows over as well. It should be noted that if we get another snowfall, they will work to plow and shovel on a per-diem basis. This may set our spring cleanups back a couple weeks, but with any luck, we’ll be back in the game by mid-April. We’ll see.

The holiday season is coming and changes are abound at Mad River Property Management. Our new offices (in the same building on the other side) are done and looking great. Stop down for a visit, or to pay a bill. We have a new dropbox outside our office for the convenience of our customers. We will try to update this site more often, as well as our Mad River Property Management Facebook page.

Starting after Thanksgiving, a Christmas tree vendor will be selling trees (cash only) to retail customers in the side yard of our building. If you are a customer of ours and need a quantity of trees, or a tree delivered and set up at your home, contact Ed and he can facilitate that for you.

Mad River Garden Center has closed its doors permanently. We are fully focused on property management and landscaping services going forward.
Our building is undergoing renovations for the month of October.
Beginning November 1st, a new business, Vee’s Flowers and Garden Shop, will open in our previous retail area.
We just finished the second phase of a large installation of trees, shrubs and perennials at a property in Warren. Our property management and landscaping crews have spent the past few days digging, planting and mulching–making the outside of this home even more gorgeous than it already was. It will be fun to see how everything grows and fills in over the upcoming years. Check out the photos below and call us with all your planting needs, big or small!
It’s a great time to shift focus to the more permanent aspects of your landscape. A particularly popular item and staff favorite is blueberry bushes. Add a couple of new shrubs each year and soon you’ll have a sweet blueberry patch.
Spring is finally here in earnest! It’s been perfect sugaring weather: cool nights and warm days with temps reaching into the 60s. Our landscaping and property management crews were dispatched starting Monday. They’re busy cleaning up yards and opening gardens. We’re gladly booking new clients and jobs, so don’t hesitate to call and discuss your project.
